The Associated Press seeks a talented visual journalist with a thoughtful and empathetic eye to join our Global Photo Desk as a photo editor based in Los Angeles. You will be joining a team undergoing an exciting period of growth and change, expanding coverage that spans the globe, 24/7.

Responsibilities: In this role, you will ensure that photos from news, sports and entertainment worldwide are published quickly and presented flawlessly. You will be part of a dynamic operation that works closely with AP journalists worldwide to ensure the cooperative’s photo report is accurate, fast, distinctive and packaged creatively for audiences around the world.

We’re looking for someone who will:
exhibit a history of success as a photo editor, with a record of delivering compelling work on deadline.
curate strong and sensitive photojournalism that illuminates blind spots, challenges assumptions and reflects diversity in all its forms.
demonstrate a love for learning new techniques and approaches in a constantly shifting visual and digital landscape.
have a great news sense, with the ability to communicate visual stories that people will want to share on social media and other platforms.
pursue innovative and inclusive coverage techniques while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.
be able and willing to work any shift, including at night and on weekends, as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation. This position is expected to work an afternoon/evening shift.

Qualifications: You must have demonstrated excellence as a careful and detail-oriented photo editor, with a deep record of guiding exclusive and distinctive visual journalism to publication. You work collaboratively with reporters, photographers, video journalists, producers and editors to identify opportunities for visual-focused storytelling. You can work swiftly and accurately on sensitive stories under tight deadlines. Applicants should have three to five years of full-time experience as a photo editor at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.

Other qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Authorization to work in the U.S. will be mandatory.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English.
Professional competency in Spanish, or another language besides English, is a major plus.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on complex, challenging story lines.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $55,397 - $80,715 contingent on experience and other job-related factors. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan, employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
